Is it safe?

Hello all!

I'm new to the world of motherhood and I'm really happy being a mom, even though it has it's own terrible times. My baby boy is 11 months old and he is really naughty already. I wonder how I'm going to handle him as he grows. Currently, he has this annoying habit of pulling away my glasses when I'm carrying him. I've scolded him plenty of times, but he just loves doing it. However, I'm thinking of getting rid of my glasses so that it's more convenient to handle him. Hence, I've been thinking of getting a lasik eye surgery. But, since, my baby is just 11 months and I'm still breastfeeding him, do you think that would affect me or my baby in any ways? I really want to know about any complications that could happen, before I finalize my decision. Please share your opinion.

I'm too afraid because I've read there are some weird side effects you can get like having halos around lights and blurry spots.

Sometimes it is recommended that the mother wait 3-6 months or longer after breastfeeding has ended before considering this surgery. These recommendations are based upon the idea that breastfeeding will cause changes in the curve of the cornea which will persist as long as breastfeeding continues. The concern with having Lasik surgery during lactation is that the surgery may need to be redone later if the mother’s vision changes after weaning. Although some women do experience eyesight changes during lactation, I was unable to find evidence to support the idea that all mothers will experience vision changes or that vision changes that do occur will necessarily persist throughout lactation. Some feel that a mother’s eyes will be back to their “normal” state once her periods have returned and are regular. Many mothers reach this state long before weaning. I am also a mother dear. And do hope that what I have said might be of help.

I was in the same situation as you are in. I have eye problem too. So when I conceived it was giving me some difficulties. There were some things I could not do with the glasses on. So I wanted to have a laser surgery. But my doctor told me not to. It could affect my pregnancy. So I had to wait till when I conceived. After that I also had to wait till I stopped breastfeeding my child. I stopped breastfeeding at 1 year. Then is when I went for the surgery. so to answer your question. The answer is yes. It does affect when you are breastfeeding. The therapy might have some complications to the child. Try to avoid this. Wait till when you are done with breastfeeding. You can then go for a surgery thereafter.
